In a remarkable display of logistical expertise, India’s Express Global Logistics (EXG) recently achieved a monumental feat by transporting enormous modules to Saudi Arabia for a groundbreaking green hydrogen project. Each of the massive structures weighed up to 250 tonnes, playing a crucial role in the initiative’s success.

The Undertaking: The venture involved moving 14 gigantic modules, each with dimensions of 50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 18 meters in height, collectively weighing approximately 1,500 freight tonnes. EXG utilized advanced Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from their specialized Megaload fleet. This cutting-edge equipment consisted of 48 axle lines, two power pack units, and custom spacers designed for effective load management.

Technical Mastery: To facilitate seamless loading, eight of the modules were transferred onto vessels using an advanced roll-on roll-off (RoRo) system, alongside ramp plates and stools. This method ensured a smooth and secure transfer. The remaining six modules were skillfully transported to the jetty using SPMTs and subsequently hoisted into position by crawler cranes.

EXG’s engineers and operational team expertly maneuvered through challenging situations thanks to meticulous planning and sophisticated equipment. The stability of the vessel throughout the journey was maintained through precise ballasting, underscoring its importance.

This operation underscores EXG’s continual growth, exemplified by the launch of a joint venture named Megaload with Italian heavyweights Fagioli in January 2023. This partnership expands their capabilities in delivering innovative lifting solutions crucial for petrochemical and construction sectors.
